I have just configured my HUAWEI E1552 on Slackware 13.0 and was curious about why pppd would write DNS entries to /etc/ppp/resolv.conf and not on /etc/resolv.conf. pppd actually runs /etc/ppp/ip-up on a successful connection and /etc/ppp/ip-down on disconnect (I'm not sure of the behavior if pppd does not close normally). ip-up and ip-down is not present on a fresh install and you will have to provide this yourself. This section "Modem and PPP configuration" from this article http://www.eskimo.com/~meik/linux/slackware8install.html#modem provides sample scripts that just works for me :)

Hi Carlos,

If you can not reach the DNS, then it might be a routing problem.
Also I saw you get a private IP Address assigned to you from your provider, this issue can be caused by NAT problem.
Please try to traceroute to the DNS and see where the path was lost. But it can be difficult to trace if your provider blocked the ICMP traceroute .
Is there any static routes already configured in your current routing table? If so, please remove them first and try to redial the wvdial.

Hi,

I followed the instructions and wvdial shows that I have an IP from my provider:

Carrier detected. Starting PPP immediately.
--> Starting pppd at Mon Jan 25 19:59:52 2010
--> Pid of pppd: 4374
--> pppd: ˆä[06][08] î[06][08]¨î[06][08]X§[06][08]
--> Using interface ppp0
--> local IP address 172.27.102.140
--> remote IP address 10.64.64.64
--> primary DNS address 196.201.208.2
--> secondary DNS address 209.244.0.3

I copied this to /etc/resolv.conf However, I cannot reach any of the DNS thus I cannot access the internet...

What else I may need to configure?

Please help!
