Skype now available for Symbian phones

Call, IM and more on Skype from your Symbian mobile.

On Monday, Feb 15th, 2010 Skype released a new version of its VOIP application for Symbian S60 v3 and v5 phones such as Nokia 5800, Nokia E51, Nokia E63, and Nokia X6. At launch only Nokia phones are supported, Skype will become availabe for other Symbian phone models soon such as Sony Ericsson and Samsung. Here are the features:

  • Free Skype-to-Skype calls and IM on 3G or WiFi.
  • Save money on calls and texts (SMS) to phones abroad.
  • Share pictures, videos and other files from your phone.
  • Easily import contact from phone address book.

The following handsets are supported:
Symbian 3rd Edition (feature pack 1 and 2): Nokia N78, N79, N81, N81 8GB, N82, N85, N95, N95 8GB, N96, 5320, 6210 Navigator, 6220, E51, E63, E66, E71, E72 and E90.
Symbian 5th Edition: Nokia N97, N97 mini, 5530, 5800 and X6.

Skype for Symbian is also compatible with the following Symbian 3rd Edition handsets; however, user experience may not be optimal: Nokia N76, 5700, 6110 Navigator, 6120, 6290.
