After the first released for iPhone on mobile, Google Earth is now available on Android platform. In this release, Google is also introducing Roads layer in the new mobile version, you can add a road labels layer on top of the satellite imagery. Grab a copy of the software from Android Market if you are on Android OS 2.1.

Verizon says it will support Google Voice; Google’s Schmidt surprised by Verizon’s openness

Verizon and Google have entered into an agreement to jointly develop wireless devices based on Google’s open-source Android mobile platform.

During a teleconference today, Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam and Google CEO Eric Schmidt outlined the companies’ new strategic partnership that will develop Android-based smartphones, PDAs and netbooks, and deliver users with applications sold through the Android Market app store. Verizon says that it will have two Android-based handsets on the market by year-end with more to come by 2010. continue reading…

Exclusive: Global forecast puts Android ahead of iPhone, BlackBerry, Windows Mobile

While the Google-backed Android mobile operating system currently runs on less than 2% of all smartphones, Gartner Inc. predicts it will surge to 14% of the global smartphone market in 2012 — ahead of the iPhone, as well as Windows Mobile and BlackBerry smartphones.

In that year, Gartner forecasts Android will actually rank second globally, behind the Symbian OS, which is used in Nokia devices that are highly popular in Europe and many countries outside the U.S. Symbian now runs on about half of all smartphones, but will fall to 39% in 2012, Gartner says. continue reading…

Android OS is an operating system developed by Google based on Linux kernel. Firstly this OS is for mobile phones in respond of Apple’s iPhone but now it can be installed on netbooks also. I have not tried yet to install it on my notebook because my notebook already full with three operating systems inside it (Windows, Opensolaris and Slackware :) ).
