Sony Ericsson’s Android-powered phone, the Xperia X10, has seen a mixed reception since its release. Some people say it is really a great phone while others have been turned off by the lack of multi-touch support and the presence of Android 1.6 rather than 2.1.
Luckily the Xperia X10 will get some minor and major updates later this year. The minor updates will correct some of the issues with the phone, while major updates will upgrade the presence of Android 1.6 to 2.1 ??
This is according to Mobile Phone Helpdesk, which interviewed Harold de Kort, Communications Manager at Sony Ericsson. He mentioned that there will be numerous updates to the Xperia X10’s software later this year, saying that some of them will be small updates while also saying that there will be one big update.
The updates won’t be able to correct multi-touch support, as that limitation goes much deeper than mere software and actually lies in the hardware the X10 is running, but according to de Kort the updates will implement a workaround. How this workaround will add benefits of multi-touch without actually being multi-touch is anyone’s guess. Good news for X10 users? We sure hope so.
